APPROVAL OF BOARD ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COMPLETION OF THE SARASOTA COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD 2023 FLORIDA SAFE SCHOOLS ASSESSMENT
Description
Section 1006.07(6) Florida Statutes requires school districts to use the Florida Safe Schools Assessment Tools (FSSAT), School Safety Risk Assessment (SSRA) to conduct a self-assessment of the school district's
current safety and security practices. According to the law, each school board must receive FSSAT results at a publicly noticed school board meeting. Each school district shall report the self-assessment results and school board action to the Commissioner of Education within 30 days following the school board meeting. The Florida School Safety Assessment was conducted and found that the district complied with the provisions of Section 1006.07(6) Florida Statute. The information gathered in this Safe Schools Assessment Tool is classified as For Official Use Only (FOUO), is protected from public disclosure under§ 281.301FS and is exempt from public records requests under § 119.071(3)(a) FS and should be handled
accordingly.
Gap Analysis
This submission of the and acceptance of the results of the School Safety Risk Assessment meets statutory requirements laid out is FSS 1006.6(7). The FSSAT must be the primary physical site security assessment tool as revised and required by the Office of Safe Schools which is used by school officials at each school district and public school site in the state in conducting security assessments.
Previous Outcomes
Sarasota County Schools School has been a leader in recognizing and implementing school safety and school hardening trends. Sarasota County has lead the way in emergency and crisis preparedness planning; security, crime, and violence prevention policies and procedures; physical security measures; school and community collaboration on school safety; policies and procedures for school officials to prepare for and respond to natural and manmade disasters, including family reunification plans to reunite students and employees with their families after a school is closed or unexpectedly evacuated due to such disasters.

Identify areas of concern at each school in relation to school security take the steps necessary to address those concerns.
